Attorney headshot, Rembrandt lighting, dark background

I used Rembrandt lighting here — a single light positioned high and to one side, so it leaves that small triangle of light on his shadow-side cheek instead of lighting his whole face evenly. It's a classic portrait technique for a reason: it adds dimension and a bit of gravity to the face, which reads as more serious and authoritative than flat, even lighting would.

The dark background keeps every bit of attention on his expression — steady eye contact, jaw set, no smile forced into it. For an attorney headshot, that restraint is the point: confident and credible carries more weight in this field than approachable and warm.

It's the kind of direction I give based on profession — headshot sessions for attorneys, executives, or anyone in a more serious field get a different lighting and expression treatment than a creative or hospitality headshot would.

As a professional headshot photographer, I always tailor my images to my clients' specific needs to create a look that represents the business they strive to create.

Location: Beverly Hills, California.
