Film Photography – The Art of Timeless Imagery

Organic. Intentional. Unapologetically Real.

There's something about film that no preset, plugin, or algorithm can replicate. In an age where AI can generate an image from a text prompt, film stands apart — it's a physical, chemical reaction to light. It can't be faked, and that's exactly the point.

I've been shooting film alongside digital for years, and the two mediums couldn't feel more different. Digital invites you to shoot freely and refine later. Film asks you to slow down, commit, and trust your eye. That tension produces something special — images that feel lived-in, considered, and genuinely yours.

Why Film?

It's not nostalgia for nostalgia's sake. Film renders the world differently — skin tones carry warmth and dimension, highlights roll off softly, and shadows hold depth without going flat. Kodak Gold, one of my personal favorites, has this particular way of rendering color and contrast that just glows. It's the kind of quality that makes you feel something when you look at a photo, without quite knowing why.

And film is honest. There are no mass-produced "film looks" applied in post. What you see is what the emulsion captured — grain, tones, and all.

The Cameras Behind the Work

I don't shoot with just one film camera, and that's intentional. Each camera comes from a different era, carries a different ergonomic feel, and puts you in a completely different headset when you're working.

My Leica M3 is from the 1960s — rangefinder shooting, deliberate framing, no motor. My Nikon F100 sits somewhere in the middle of the timeline, a workhorse with precision. And my Pentax 17 is practically brand new — a half-frame camera that brings a different energy entirely.

Then there's my Canon AE-1. My dad passed it on to me when I became a professional photographer, and my college roommate gave me his 50mm f/1.8 prime for it when he bought his first professional camera. That combination has made some of my favorite images I've ever taken. Some cameras just have history, and you feel it when you're shooting.

Development, Scanning & Editing

Every roll I shoot is professionally developed, carefully scanned, and thoughtfully edited. Raw lab scans are a starting point — they often need refinement to truly bring out the richness, depth, and character of the film. I take that step seriously, so what you receive isn't a flat scan with a grain overlay; it's a fully realized image that honors what film actually looks like at its best.

You'll receive high-resolution digital files that are polished, true to the film aesthetic, and ready to print, share, or pass down.

How It Works

Film photography is available as a standalone experience or as an add-on to any digital session. Many clients love the combination — digital gives you coverage and flexibility, film gives you the frames that feel like art.

Available for engagements, proposals, weddings, elopements, graduation portraits, and family sessions. If you've already booked and want to add film, just reach out — we'll make it work!
